Occulus Rift with iPad mini retinal display

I am curious to know if the Occulus Rift works with the iPad mini with retinal display, like to know before I buy one. Has anyone tried this?

While it might be possible to connect the Occulus Rift to the iPad using a TV-out cable, aside from the screen input, the Rift uses a USB connector for the controller functionality. No bluetooth or anything like that.
