Pocket-lint has one of their typically off-beat stories today about some engineers at Yelp ("We love hacking, we love beer, and we love iPads!") who have put great effort into hacking an iPad and connecting it to a beer supply to create an app they're calling the "KegMate"! The KegMate is hooked up to various temperature and flow sensors at the same time as being connected to a common-or-garden beer keg, with the whole set-up also being linked to an RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) reader.
To operate the device, all you have to do is swipe your RFID reader card, then pour yourself a glass of beer. Easy enough! The app will then monitor the amount you're drinking, how much beer you have left, and the temperature of the liquid. It will even give you the opportunity to rate the beer, and to compare your beer consumption with that of your mates'.
