Hi,

This may be a lost cause, as I've been combing the internet. But I would give my left arm to retrieve some lost files from my notability app. What happened:

1. Jailbroken Ipad 2 running old iOS (cannot remember, possibly 5.1.1) with notability and my precious notes
2. Backed up iPad 2 on iTunes, (assumed things would be saved), cos new iOS 7.0.4 and its JB was out
3. Restored iPad using iTunes to iOS 7.0.4 and used evasi0n to JB
4. Restored old back ups but then new version of notability app present and with NOTHING inside :'(

So I've tried a few things:
1: Unsuccessfully downgrading iOS 7.0.4 (did not save shsh blobs)
2. Numerous Backup software: Wondershare, Back up extractor, iTunes backup extractor

all to no avail. The back up software have just allowed me to extract notability cookies and preference folder and googleanalytics.sql file.

I thought the files would be there deep deep within....but i'm coming up to dead ends everywhere. PLEASE HELP ME!!!! anybody!!!

Notability syncs with several cloud services including Dropbox, Box, Google Drive, etc. Personally, I store my notes on my Dropbox. You didn't have a similar setup, did you? If so, your notes are likely on the cloud storage platform you used, and not in your backup.

Overall, the problem probably isn't JB related at all. It's more likely an issue because you were using an old version on Notability (several behind the current), but have made a jump to the latest with "old" data. Hope you get your notes back. Good Luck!

Happened once to me too. I did have regular backups in iTunes.
But was not able to get anything on in Notability.
You could try this, maybe it works. But you need to have iExplorer installed on your computer.

1. Run iExplorer without connecting your iPad to the computer
2. It has a button on the start up screen saying Explore iTunes Backup
3. Click on that and select the iPad backups you had made
4. The first option (when you expand the tree) is Backup Explorer followed by Messages, Contacts, etc...
5. Click the Backup Explorer and you will see a list of Apps on the right.
6. select the App - com.gignerlabs.Notability
7. Under Library/Sessions there should be all your old files.

It normally lists all the backups you have done on the computer with iTunes, so you should be able to find it.
Hope this helps

Thank prasadvenkatraman,

I tried iExplorer, but after selecting App - com.gignerlabs.Notability and Library folder there are only Preference and Cookies folder and a document named googleanalytics.sql.... I'm assuming these are not my old files....

Sigh. why???? i'm never upgrading ever again :(

Hi swttam,
Not really sure why that happened.
They are not your old files as the Notability files are stored in a folder called Sessions, with sub-folders of each of the Notability page you made.
Possible that there were no backups made for Notability before on iTunes(on this computer) option.

Not really a wiz at technology so not sure how to help in recovering old files. But just some info for the future. There is also an option through Notability to export all sessions to pdf.
I generally keep both copies, the Notability sessions on iTunes and PDF versions of it on a external disk.

sorry could not be of more help
