wow, feel your pain mate, However your story brings a bit of good news for many if us I think.
I for one have been worried to death on just how robust this is going to be.
I dropped my touch a few times, and worked great no problems, so I was thinking bound to get some bumps and bruises along the way.
But does sound from your experience at least it works.

Bad I know mate, but look on the bright side.....it could have busted totally, then were would you be??

I have the iPhone too and both a slippery. But the iPad is heavier.
I've had a case because of that.
But what I would do if I were you is look into the skin-it cases.
This is like a second skin in any color or design.
That might cover any imperfections. Then I'd look into a case .
I have 3 (being a woman,I have a few colors ) ut I found some good deals on
    Amazon.com. Most under $25.
The skin-it is so thin you should be able to use it and a case.
The apple case is very tight, might not work.
Good luck with it ,I feel your pain.

Are you sure they would do this? I have the same problem but I thought their policy didn't cover accidental damage.

wow... thanks for the response but um.. this thread is 2 years old :D

but yes, they offered to let me trade it in for credit towards a new one, but only for around 300 (this was the 500 dollar ver IIRC)

decided not to, was mostly just a cosmetic dent in the side of the case. iPad worked fine and continues to work fine to this day with its little dent on the side :D

    it gives it character! :D
