On the Barnes and Noble website it says we can download a Nook app for the Ipad from Itunes, but when I search for it, there is no such app fo the Ipad. What happened to it?

I just did a search in the app store on my iPad for Nook and it is there, right on top.

It has been temporarily withdrawn, pending an upgrade. Basically Apple wanted them to remove the 'In Store' button from the app and they're working on this now. It will be back soon.

Oops, not back yet. That was Nook Kids... It should not be long, however, as the iPhone version is there. The app Kobo will work with Barnes & Noble, however.

Kobo works with Borders, not B&N, at least on books I own.

Kobo might be temporarily out, too. (I haven't checked.) I received email saying they had to change their app, because of Apple. (Same reason as Tim mentioned for the Nook app.)

Hmm, Kobo came up when I did the search for Nook.

Personally, Kobo is annoying and very slow. They do have a lot of affiliates and not just Borders. Kobo is in the store, however, with the changes made already.

I'm checking with Kobo, because it would be good to have its app as a backup to read B&N books, in case B&N goes belly up, like Borders. So far, I've not gotten any B&N books to work with Kobo's app. Maybe some work because they don't have DRM, but the books I want to preserve access to all have DRM.

B&N announced today that they would soon be releasing a new version of Nook for iPad that adds support for full color magazines and newspapers. They were probably so close to finishing it, that they didn't want to release an old version of the app that just had the store removed even though Apple was forcing it.

And compete with Amazon who just introduced a similar update to the Kindle app.

I just updated my kindle app.
Now I don't have a shop or go to shop option.
Is it hiding or did they forget to include?

Go to Amzon.com in Safari and buy them through the Kindle store. That's all the link did anyway, send you directly to the Kindle store in Safari.

Use Safari on the > iPad < to go to Amazon.com. Select the Kindle from the options on the left, then select ebooks from the menu. This is exactly (or close enough) what the link in the Kindle app did. It was not a special store in the Kindle app. It was just a shortcut to the site, and it opened the Safari app to go there.

Once there, you can make yourself a bookmark for convenience.

Buying books this way is slightly different, but the result is the same. The ebook will show up in your archive page on the Kindle. Or you can select to send it to the iPad immediately using the "Deliver to:" menu just below the Buy button.

But why would they change the convenience of shopping in the app?

Can you advise a way to have a better icon on the iPad than the page that links into amazon kindle.
    It looks yucky?

Most of the time you get miniature web page, and it is unattractive. However a few sites are prepared for the iPad and supply a good icon. The Kindle Store seems to be one. When I followed my own instructions I got a nice blue icon that said Kindle Store.

At any rate I've copied the URL that worked for me. Be sure to let the page finish loading before trying to create the icon.

If you're lazy like I am, you can pick anything you like on a Web page as an icon; you pick something on the page, zoom in and crop as you like on the page before you save your bookmark to your home screen.

By the way, if you save the Kindle store, you get a nice (IMO) Kindle store icon on your home screen. Amazon probably just added it because of this kerfuffle with Apple.
