Is there a way to determine whether or not an ipad is new or refurbished?

Check the model number in Settings - General - About - Model Number.
If you see an A followed by four digits, tap it once. It should look like this then: MY2W2FD/A

If it starts with an M, it‘s new.
An F at the beginning means it‘s refurbished.
An N indicates it‘s a replacement device, and a P means it was personalized (engraving).
