I use my iPad 3 in work and in play. Have 64 gig wifi, with 260 apps. Too often, I'll try to start an app and it starts, some, then stops and kicks me to home screen. Weirdly, it doesn't happen to every app (some will start), but it happens to many apps, maybe mostly ones in folders. What usually fixes it is to get any old app and install it. But then eventually it starts up again, like now.

Any idea why some apps freeze and take me to home page? Any fixes?

Sounds like memory issues. Try force closing open apps and see if that helps. Here's the procedure.

Either double press the home button, or do a four finger swipe up the screen to reveal the multitask bar.

Long press on any app in the multitask bar until a minus sign appears on the icons.

Touch the minus sign on the app and it will disappear from the multitask bar. Repeat as necessary.

Do a four finger swipe down the screen or press the home button once to return the screen to normal.

Thanks. But I tried it, no go. These apps still freeze: Netflix and draw with friends (zyinga). Safari sometimes too. But other apps are working (didn't try too many others, tho)

With the exception of Safari, you could try uninstalling and reinstalling the problem apps, or have a look at the comments section in the app store and see if other people have been getting similar experiences.

Tried uninstall then reinstall. Fixed Netflix, didn't fix "draw something" app. Thanks for ideas.

My son has had endless problems with Draw Something. I haven't heard him complain lately, so I assumed the last update fixed it. However, maybe he just stopped playing it.

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

It does look like a memory problem here as Kevin suggests. Did you close all the apps in your multi task bar? as each one of these uses a small amount of ram here and closing them all will clear it. Also, do you use a lot of location services? Try to limit these as they all take up ram. And Safari, do you browse a lot? As the iPad will save little bits of ram for each of these sites. Go to Settings - Safari and clear your History and Clear Cookies and Data. Some apps as well as sites in Safari use a lot more ram than others depending on the graphics they have and this is why you will find some apps crashing more than others. Do these steps, also give your iPad a restart and let us know if it has made a difference.
Just in case you don't know...Restart - Press and hold the power off button, the one at the top right. You will see a slide appear to power off, slide this and the screen will go dark and a Whirly will appear. When the Whirly disappears your iPad is now off. Press the power button again until the Apple logo appears, this will take a few seconds and your iPad will restart. You should restart your iPad occasionally also as it will keep it running well.
