In the first instance tap the Settings icon then General then Software Update. This should give you the option to update. Let us know the result. If no go, other solutions may apply. And welcome to the forum!

Hi nayyar, when you do as Andrew suggest what message do you get? See below do you get this? If so you are already using the latest OS and you have other problems. Let us know please.

Which iOS version is your iPad currently on? The software update section in settings didn't appear until iOS 5. Before that all updates had to be initiated from iTunes on the computer, while the iPad was connected to the computer with the docking cable.

OK, try this now Nayyar, and don't worry, it does not harm your iPad in any way. It's just a way of resetting and tidying your iPad's memory.
Press the On/Off button and Home button at the same time and the screen will turn black. Keep holding patiently until the white Apple logo appears. Let both buttons go and again wait until the home screen appears. Then slide the On button. Now try operating your iPad again. Any good?
Regards, Andrew

Tried as advised, no change in situation.
Regarding the version I don't know where to look but it is certainly older than iOS 5 because while trying to install an application I got the message that I need to have an iOS 5 or later version - Nayyar.

In that case you will have to do as I suggested and connect to iTunes on your computer and initiate the update from there.

To check what iOS version your iPad is currently on, go to Settings>General>About and scroll down to version. Your current iOS version is listed there.
Here's a screenshot from my iPad to illustrate.

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

Have you followed Scifan's advice and had a look at what version of OS you are running? As stated if you are not already on OS5 you will need to do it via ITunes on your PC/laptop. You should do a complete backup of your iPad before starting the update process, it is also a good idea to disable your Firewall/Virus protection for the duration of the update. Also make sure you have the latest version of iTunes on your PC/laptop. The jump to OS5 was a particularly large one and this will take some time and is dependent on what you already have on your iPad. After this process your ipad will be on OS 6.01. I will include a video link to guide you. Good luck!
