Have recently launched myself into the Apple world with an IPad Air 128gb with cellular. decided my first buy was my best buy and at my age might be my last buy! Did not make the purchase lightly....after great consideration....why did I want to move away from my old faithful systems to something totally new...blame age again!
Heading overseas soon and wanted to be able to transfer Nikon files to view and save for self and husband along with the usual travel advantages. Have bought a nice Epson air printer (Expression for photos) and have been able to sort myself out reasonably well.
I knew I might miss my MSOffice suite however, have had a play in numbers and reckon that will do me for what I need on a personal level. Anything I am doing for my current commitments for clubs and charities will do on husbands set up.
Perhaps the only thing I am struggling with is "back up" of photos and files to an external hard drive. Will bring this up in a forum. Have done a bit of research but would like a bit more help but will ask in appropriate spot.
I should mention that my IPad has taken over from my old lap top and will now be my only "computer". I will be working at maintaining it that way and working at work arounds so as not to have to use my husbands!!!!
Looking forward to learning as much as possible (and for my phone contract to run out so I can get an iPhone)

Thank you and apologies for slow reply. Have literally had my head stuck into many of the links you have suggested and more. Plus have used the Apple support people who have been excellent. It helps knowing the right questions to ask! Have tracked a few answers down through the forum which has been great..many thanks.

When I first joined, I think I had my head in the threads here for a week without surfacing, there's just so much to explore.

And you'll love using your iPad for travelling, it's just so much easier than having to take a laptop.

I can't remember what happened 4 years ago if I recall we had around 1000 members with John, Dan and 3 others handling support..... Some how is ended up being promoted to moderator when I suggested we set up a regional section so the other half of the world could have there own area. I do remember printing off the rules and going through them step by step so I had a clear picture of how the forum functioned. Those were heady days lol dam now 310,000 members heaps of sponsors regional area has many countries... Lots of special forums and users from every part of the world and 15 moderators plus 4 administrators run the show not forgetting our news team and of course the owners. Thanks Leelai, The OB and small town girl for helping our fellow Aussie ....

Not negating the welcome from SkiMonkey and SmalltownGirl but there did seem to be an emphasis on Aussie Aussie Aussie .... Though with recent cricket scores maybe we should keep our heads a little low. Mine is held high this am with my boys winning last night I know not the forum for AFL but PORT POWER WON!!)
I appreciate all the extra links as still struggling with the back up drive issue. almost at the stage of just buying more flash cards.
Just loving the IPad though. Much easier reading books than my Samsung S3! Downloaded a film for a trial...Cate Blanchett (another Aussie) in ? Blue Jasmine...sat up in bed like lady muck..Mmm could do more of that.
Have again been in contact with Apple support they have been excellent. Many thanks for great welcome.

Have very strong connections with up and over there! Past business and pleasure, best friend currently out here visiting helping me with my IPad and SIL posted on West coast for several years so multi trips back and forth and round and about by car and RUV.
Just like Australia you have to get out there to see as much as you can and we did pretty well. Biggest surprise was Bryce Canyon which literally took my breath away. Looking forward to returning....for as long as my legs and breath holds up I intend to be on the move. Money???? What's that you say? Gawd forgot about that! Shorter and shorter trips then!
