Hi Kevin and welcome to the Forum!

A refurbished iPad is one that has been fixed in some way, this could be something as minor as dust under the screen, there is no difference with a new one, except that it is normally a little cheaper but still comes with the same warranty as a brand new one. Many members here buy refurbished models as they are cheaper.
Yes an iPad 3 will get a little hot when charging and this is normal.

Yes if you do have a problem with your iPad anytime during the first year, your iPad will be replaced free of charge. This warranty does not include screen breaks and please be aware if you drop your iPad, then your warranty is voided.
