Thank you all for the welcome. Since I go on two cruises a year taking my Ipad (When I get it) will be so much better than a laptop, and with the 3G feature receiving emails from my kids should not be a problem.
Reason I do not have my Ipad is that Apple is taking at least 20 days to ship even thou they say on their website 7-10 days shipping time. After you buy the Ipad you receive a email giving you the delivery date. Would have bought it in the local stores but they were all out of the model I wanted.
