Can architect XL perform a 3D house

Sorry, I've only played around with these apps, so I can't tell you very much about them at all......I got them for my daughter who finished her Masters on Architecture just last year, she has more of an idea of how these type of apps work.

Hi Chriya,

I have used autoCAD in an office on a networked PC. AutoCAD and its 3D rendering programmes require a lot of processor power to function properly.

I've also used a home CAD programme which could do limited 3D - TurboCAD. Again a lot of memory is required to create 3D drawings.

It all depends upon the levels of sophistication and detail you require, but I am doubtful whether you can find a 3D CAD programme for an iPad. However, there are CAD programmes around for iMacs.

Sorry to sound so negative, but I wanted to put you in the picture, and ensure you are not asking too much.

It is how Richard Brown has described it. My daughter works mainly with CAD software on her Mac. They are very large and expensive programmes and as yet there is nothing for an iPad which can compare with these. She's also overseas on a yacht in Croatia at the moment and has limited contact.

There is a company which will be releasing a 2D CAD app by the end of the year which I have been keeping an eye on. If you would like to have a look.... Orangejuicestudios.
