There's more than one large souvenir shop, but I didn't check to see if they had Davy Crockett hats. I'll make sure to check for you as soon as I have the time.

I took a walk on the San Antonio Riverwalk this morning. The views and scenery are very interesting.
The Riverwalk runs for several miles along the San Antonio River and the Riverwalk waterways. There are many restaurants and tourist shops, all in the shade and ambiance of the waterway. They have a tour that lasts for 35 minutes and costs less than $9.00.

A Riverwalk Cruise:
I just got back from a 35 minute cruise on the Riverwalk, which covers the whole of the Riverwalk loop.
These photos are from the area around my hotel and the first part of the Riverwalk.
The red stone building and the tower with the beehive shaped top are part of the Bexar County court house in San Antonio.
As well as featuring a very large U.S. flag, this office building has many gargoyles projecting from the sides of the building.
This cypress tree, the oldest on the Riverwalk, is over 300 years old.
This photo shows the rear of the Aztec Theatre, built as a silent movie palace in the 1920's.
This last group of photos are from the last part of the way back to the start point of the cruise.

It took a while Andrew, but I managed to get back to the Alamo gift shop and verified that they do indeed have Davy Crockett hats.

Here are some photos from my visit to the Tower Of The Americas. Built for Hemisfair, the 1968 Worlds Fair, it was the tallest free-standing tower in the U.S. when it was built.

This is St. Joseph's church, built in 1868 by German settlers.
This is the Alamo, seen from the top of the tower.
This is the Alamo Dome, built in the hopes of attracting an NFL franchise to San Antonio and the current home of the San Antonio Spurs of the NBA.

Hello SciFan... - thanks for the additional San Antonio pics - brings back a lot of memories - as a kid in the 1950s, Davy Crockett was a folk hero (may still be -
) - Fess Parker's (image below) TV series was one of the more popular series for us @ that time - he passed away a few years back in his mid-80s - after acting, his main claim to fame was the eponymous Winery in southern California - Dave

Ah, you've brought back some memories there also Dave. I can remember that series, and there was even a brief period when us kids were sporting those Davy Crockett caps

When I was in the US on our first trip a few years ago, I saw this and just had to get one!
The problem is my cat doesn't like it very much and regularly attacks it....the tail is now shorter than it was originally.
Oh, that just gave me a chuckle! Thanks for that Leelai!
Lol.....I kept wondering why I kept finding it on the floor.....finally caught the cat leaping up to get at it!
I'm thinking he wouldn't get on with a raccoon at all!

Here are some photos from my last day in San Antonio, last Thursday. 
This is a statue of San Antonio, the Saint for whom the city and river are named. It was part of the Portuguese pavilion at the 1968 Worlds Fair in San Antonio and was given to the city by the government of Portugal. 
A palm tree growing beside the Riverwalk. 
A live oak tree growing in the garden beside the Alamo. 
I'm told that some of the pock marks on this stone in the front wall of the Alamo are bullet holes dating from the siege in 1836. 
Part of an engraving on display in front of the Alamo, showing the state of the chapel at the time of the siege. 
The Scottish Rite Cathedral in San Antonio, now a library and museum. 
The Majestic Theatre in San Antonio. Notice the no guns allowed signs on the box office windows. Quite a few businesses in San Antonio have these signs on display. 
San Fernando Cathedral in San Antonio. What you see here is the 19th century front added to the cathedral in 1868. The statue in the third photo is of San Fernando, for whom the cathedral is named. The original portion of the cathedral was built in 1738-1750, and forms the sanctuary of the present cathedral. It is currently the oldest active cathedral in the United States.

BTW, across the street from the Alamo is the famous Menger Hotel and its historic bar (Teddy Roosevelt & his Rough Riders hung out there, among a few others as listed in the quote below) - I've always dropped in for a cold beer on my visits nearby - also some beautiful architecture & stained glass - Dave
