hi guys,

just upgraded from an ipad1 to an ipad3. (32gb wifi)

got 2 Q's to ask.

I use two seperate leads to charge the ipad and to connect to the pc/itunes. Is there a single cable that I can use that would do both jobs !!

I have a rotating case/cover for the ipad but I dont like it as I can see the black surrounds of the ipad and all my fingerprints. Is there another option.

thanks

The cable that comes with the iPad is used for charging and connecting to iTunes. There shouldn't be any need to use a separate cable for each purpose unless you're using third party cables that are not fully Apple compatible.

The iPod touch cable should be identical to the one that came with your iPad 3 when new. You should be able to use it to charge the iPad when connected to the charger.

agreed..except when I connect the ipod charger cable (which charges and syncs with itunes) to the IPAD..I get a message next to the battery icon that reads NOT CHARGING !!

Just ordered a cable off ebay that supposedly does both...we shall see.

Are you connecting the cable to the charger that plugs into a wall socket? You could always get an official Apple cable if other cables don't work.

one cable goes into the back of the pc via usb....this one lets me sync to itunes. When I connect the ipod touch to this cable it also charges the ipod.

the other cable is wired into a socket and I use that to charge the ipad.

The cable that you use to sync to iTunes also plugs into the iPad charger, which plugs into a wall socket. Here is a photo of an iPad charger. image-3271084413.jpg.

Just be sure to use only a genuine Apple cable & charger. If you purchased off eBay check that the item is not just iPad compatible, that it is a genuine Apple product. Also, it is always advisable to charge your iPad directly from the charger plugged into a wall socket.
Were you given the iPad or did you purchase it? If you purchased it, it should have been supplied with a charger, as Scifan showed you, and a cable with a USB connector on one end and a connector that fits into your iPad. This cable connector will also fit your iPod. If you use the charger cable and not your PC you should have no problems.
Hopefully, I understood your question well enough.

That's because the USB sockets on most computers don't have enough power to properly charge the iPad. If the iPad is asleep it will usually charge very slowly even though it says not charging.

so the cable arrived and didnt do what it was supposed to.
I am still using two seperate cables...one plugged into the pc via usb to access itunes and the other which has a plug on the other end to charge it.

really shouldn't be allowed one of these.
Can someone send me a link to the cable that I want...ie..one cable that charges AND connects to the pc.

thanks

You don't need a different cable. Use the one that is connected to the computer, and the Power Adapter (already posted by scifan).
Here's a picture from Apple Store:

I think he's using a third party charger with a permanently attached cable to charge his iPad.

Possible. I thought of the one that's going to the back of the PC via USB.
Or he'll need this as well:
