My brand new ipad doesnt slide

Hi,
I'm Shilpa and got an ipad as the new years gift. I connected to itunes but my phone just wouldnt slide. I did everything I could like pressing home and on/off key for 10 secs restore factory settings etc but the slider just wouldnt budge... Is this a bad duck of the lot? should i get it replaced or any one of you have encountered such issue before (Duh!!)

I have never heard of anything like that. I would say try to get it replaced.
