Music from icloud to ipad 3

I have uploaded over 7000 songs from my external hard drive to iCloud and even after sync iPad only shows 62songs.in iCloud there is an. Exclamation mark next to most of the music.i have purchased iCloud match, didn't help...I know newby question .can u gurus in cyber space help?

If there is a exclamation mark next to the song iTunes has lost the path to the song. Did you disconnect the external hard drive after you uploaded the songs? That may have done it.
