Japanese store Muji has released a trio of actually rather useful apps, two of which are free. Kicking off with the two freebies first, Muji to Go is a really handy travel app that features a World Clock displaying the time in cities around the world, weather for various locations around the world, a very handy Power Supply feature that displays the shapes of power sockets used in different countries so you know what sort of adaptor to take, Forex currency converter and a calculator. You can download it here.

The second free Muji app is Muji Calendar, which is a scheduler, where you can sync your Google Calendar, or use it as a standalone scheduler, using either a 12-hour or 24-hour time scale. The app also enables you to see a whole day’s appointments on a single screen without scrolling. By tapping the track on the bottom of the screen you can instantly access the Muji to Go app. Download it here.

The third Muji app, which is the paid one, is Muji Notebook, which features handwriting recognition and predictive text input, enabling you to take notes and sketch. You can import photos and PDFs from iPad and iTunes, adjust them and lay them out, and choose from four different page types: ruled, gridded, quadrant and plain.

You can download the Muji Notebook app here for $3.99/£2.39.

The calendar app is nice - no landscape view though, which is a shame - but very nicely laid out (even has a to-do list on each day) and IMHO far more pleasant to use than the built-in iPad calendar; shame it only syncs with Google cal though, and not Apple...

No landscape is a killer for me.

Why? Is there some fundamental functionality missing that you can't get in portrait mode?

The calendar app is promising. However, landscape mode is a MUST. Also, the time designations show up weird on the calendars. The hours after 12 pm show up as 13, 14, 15, etc. instead of 1 pm, 2pm, 3 pm, etc. This happens no matter whether I choose the 12 or 24 hour clock in the settings menu.

The app, when importing from Google Calendar, has all the birthdays "off" by one day.

90% of the time I have the ipad in Landscape. I only use portrait for reading books and some web pages.

All apps should support Landscape and Portrait - this includes iPhone and Touch apps.

For an app/author to just not support either viewing mode is one that will not sell well.
