Hi,
I have searched for similar posts but unable to find. When in iBooks or in a news app like NPR I don't see a way to go to a previous screen without closing and reopening application. I like the iPad but am finding moving within apps a little awkward.

I like iBooks and have added many PDFs. I can see the Library and can choose different docs but once i choose a doc am unable to a previous screen without closing and reopening application.

Am I missing something obvious?? thanks for any help you can offer.

Hi there--you can leave the apps open and do a 4-finger swipe on your screen to revisit any apps you have left open. You don't have to press the home button to re-open another app. Just do the swipes.

I swipe back and forth between Pages, Evernote, IPF app, and the iPadforums site online.

Hope that helps!!

You can also do the four-finger swipe up from the bottom. This will reveal your recently used apps. Then, it's a quick tap and the new app will open. No having to leave the app you are in with either of these two methods.

You know, I keep forgetting to do the swipe upwards. That would be faster than swiping thru 5 apps all the time! Thanks for the reminder, Marilyn!

If you are reading your mail from the "Mail" App and you press a link which takes you to a page in "Safari" App, is there a way to get back to the mail message from "Safari"?

Or you are in Facebook and you link to Safari can you get back to Facebook without using the 4 fingers up swipe and choose?

No. The swipe side-to-side action (which I always forget to do) and the four-finger swipe up and select action are the only software-based ways Apple has designed to get you back to a previously opened app.
