Ok so I read on apple I can mirror my ipad to play via the Apple TV. ( see screen shot)

It's not working or me what so ever! I don't have the air play symbol it talks about in step 3.

I've checked everything and troubleshoot etc i can even airplay music YouTube vids and even control apple tv from the app remote but that symbol doesn't show up as suggested and it won't mirror.

Any suggestions?

I don't see your screenshot but I mirror using my Apple TV without any issue. Some Apps, however, do block mirroring, if you can confirm which App it is we can take a look.

It allows me to mirror my iMac to the Apple TV so I cam see the desktop view etc so I know it works but can't understand why my ipad won't do it when requirements say I should be able too...

You"ll see from scree. Shot I have no air play button like the apple guide suggests

Which version of iOS are you on?

6.1.2 ( haven't updated to the latest yet as I heard bad things)

But the requirements are 5 or above. Apple TV is up to date with most recent update.

Just to check, your Apple TV is switched on and both your iPad and Apple TV are on the same network? If those two things are ok, check out this link for some trouble shooting solutions http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4215

Let us know how you get on.

Followed all them steps already. Checked my router settings etc and everyone is in order. It allowed me to AirPlay items from the ipad via the Apple TV but not to mirror. I just can't seem to get that airplay button on the bottom bar

One solution I read, which might be worth a try if you haven't already, is to reboot your Apple TV, router and iPad, ideally, shut all three down and reboot your router before the other two.

I will try that in a little while, my little girl is watching a movie on Netflix at the moment, she won't be impressed if I cut the net lol

That is great to hear, thanks for letting us know.....like all computers down the years these things can sometimes forget how they are supposed to work, so always revert to the only page in the IT Tech's manual, which simply states "turn it off, then turn it back on"!
