Own an iOS device and you’re a music fanatic? You might be interested to know that Microsoft is offering as of today an alternative to popular music services like Spotify. The tech giant has pushed out the Xbox Music service for the iOS (and Android) environment.

From now on, Apple fans who want to listen to a certain tune on their device, have the ability to access their favorite music, sync and change previously created playlists. The only down part is that the ability to play songs without a sustainable Internet connection is not provided. Xbox music general manager Jerry Johnson promised that the apps will be updated every four to six weeks. Here is the whole list of feats:
  • Stream ad-free music from a catalog of tens of millions of songs
  • Add songs, albums, and playlists to your Xbox Music collection and access them from other devices
  • Create playlists that sync across your phone, Xbox 360, PC, tablet, and the web
  • Listen to music while using your iPhone
  • Listen to artist-based radio stations
  • Enjoy a rich visual experience for searching, viewing, and playing back music.
In order to use the iOS app users will have to register for an Xbox Pass. All in all, the service offers some pretty basic features. Lovers of Spotify might miss the social interaction that application provides. Microsoft hasn’t made a presence in the social media world and hasn’t really added any social markers to its products, but the company is researching the problem and currently looking for solutions.
