Making space

iPad updated no problem. Need help freeing up space on phone so I can download new software. Best way to get rid of apps? Once new version downloaded, do I need to periodically delete apps to make room for new apps? Feels like new software will fill up entire space.

Updated apps do tend to use more storage memory than they used to, so the space they take up will increase over time.
