Hi I have just got my new iPad air. On my PC and old iPad I have folders in my mail and if required can make new folders to file my emails. I cannot duplicate the folders on my new iPad or create new ones. Help please

Hi, Skukusa! Welcome to iPF!

If you have problems with email accounts, they mostly can be fixed by deleting the account in your settings and then reinstall it.

Do you have one email account, or more? In case there are more than one: the mailboxes/folders of each one can only be seen and accessed when you tap the account:

To add a new folder/mailbox:
After choosing the account where you intend to add it, tap "Edit":

Then "New Mailbox":

Enter the name of the new folder, then save:

Tap "Done", and the new mailbox should be there:

Hi J A Thanks I have deleted and reinstalled to no avail. Adding new folders doesn't work. When I tap "Edit" then "Add Mailbox" I go to Mailboxes with a "Done" button at top right but there is no "New Mailbox" at bottom to create a new folder. Any more ideas.

Could you please provide a screenshot (press Home and Power button simultaneously for a short time - you'll hear a shutter sound; the picture will be in Camera Roll), to show the situation when you try to add a folder?

In the meantime, try the usual fixes when something isn't behaving as expected:

Restart iPad: turn it off, wait for a few minutes, turn it on.
Reset it: press and hold Home and Power button at the same time until the Apple logo appears, then release both and let the iPad start on it's own.

Who is your email provider, and (if you know) what is your account type: IMAP, POP3, or Exchange?

POP3 accounts will not allow the creation of folders on the iPad. Some email providers offer more than one account type as an option. IMAP is almost always the best choice.

Hi twerppoet thanks for info. I am in UK my mail provider is BT. I have been on to their web site and they agree with you that to get folders etc I need IMAP account. On my old iPad my Primary Server is Yahoo!SMTP Server on my iPad air my provider is Mail.Internet.com
I cannot find out how to configure to an IMAP account rather than a POP3

All mail uses SMTP, so you can ignore those settings unless you are setting the mail account up manually.

If you are setting them up manually then use whatever your service provider says you should in order to set up your account as IMAP on both devices. I've heard of BT before, I'm betting they have instructions on their support site specifically for the iPad and iPhone. Just be sure those instructions are the ones for IMAP.

Setting up a direct Yahoo account is easy. You just choose the Yahoo options when Adding an account in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars. However, if your Yahoo account is through BT, then you'll need to follow their instructions using the Other option instead of Yahoo.

And that's about all I can offer at the moment, as I have to be off to another project. If this is not enough to get you set up, and/or Johanna's instructions don't help I'll be back. Just let us know.

Good luck.

Your screenshot looks like you tapped "Edit" in this view:

Which would lead me to the same situation as yours is in your screenshots.
If it's possible to add folders, then you need to tap one of the accounts (in Accounts) to get this done.
