We are about to go and get this computer. Well ~ not me, but my daughter. She came home from college yesterday and said this is what she is going to get.

Everyone has them at college and they are awesome for note taking, and you can also tape the instructor on what he is saying? Something like that.

So ~ I was looking at them at the Apple site and the 13" is almost $1200 and the 17" is almost $2500!

    Goodness ~

Does the Apple store provide financing? I am about to go and check on that!

Thoughts? Good choice? She has about 4 years left including graduate school...

It's an investment. I bought my wife a new MacBook Pro last month and installed Win7 for those programs where they don't have OSX support.

I believe that they do. They are awesome, but I am biased as I am an apple fanboy.

Sent from my iPad using iPF

Your daughter should be the one buying it, not you, because Apple offers dicounts for college students. You have to access the website from a college internet though, as the option doesn't appear otherwise. Apple smartness again :)

There is a 6 or 12 month financing option, but you have without doubt found that already ;)

Just pretend you want to buy a Macbook, after choosing the screensize, it asks you to configure the MBP and on the right sight is a box labeled Summary. Inside that box is a blue link: 6 or 12 month financing options.

There may be different financing options available though. You might want to head to your local AppleStore to find out about them :D

$100 off! But ~ we added Microsoft Office as it doesn't come with it? So that took back the $100.

There are so many options to choose! What else do you think she should get?

With the educational site you also get a good deal off on the Applecare, but you owe it to yourself to also look for Applecare from Amazon, cheaper than from Apple. As a note for the Applecare, it DOES NOT have to be purchased when you buy it, you have up until the end of the first year to purchase and activate it, extending it out another two years.

Any other questions, I am pretty sure I have come across it. Way too many Apple products...

Yes to the MacBook Pro. A Great computer. Yes, there is financing available and student discounts available. Also, when you buy a new computer you can get One-to-One training for only $99.00 for a year. You have your own trainer and can study whatever you want to work on in your sessions. I bought a One-to-One membership when I bought my MacBook. Great, great stuff. You can also get iWork for only $30. Check this out on the Apple.com web site. The trainers are wonderful. I had no idea all the things my new Mac could do. Three years later, I am still learning lots of new things. (I think you can add a person to your One-to-One membership when you buy your new computer, too). If you can go to an Apple store in person, I would recommend that. Hands on, showing you how everything works and answering your questions. I am a definate Apple Fan.

Thank you very much for your input! Now, is it true that Macs don't get viruses?

No, that is a myth. iPad's on the other hand don't get viruses ;)

Btw. if you were asking, whether anti-virus software is required, I spent ages searching for a free av program, coming from the Windows world thinking, there must be one, but ended up buying Norton. As the only free one was ClamXAV, an opensource av software and well, not too reliable. Though that was last year, perhaps some other options have appeared since than.

I use Sophos Mac Home Edition which is free and works quite well. As far as I know there has never been a serious virus affecting the OS X platform, but there are vulnerabilities in OS X that are waiting to be exploited. I don't worry as much about getting infected when using a Mac but I still have protection just in case.
