lost in unfamiliar update

Sorry about my lack of skill. I could not figure out how to upgrade my autistic son's IPAD2 to IOS 5... so I wound up in this forum to try to get some help.

Hi there-welcome to the forum!

Open iTunes on your computer. Plug your iPad in with the USB cord. Your iTunes will detect if there are updates both for your iPad and also for iTunes.

Currently, iTunes update is at 10.6.1 and the iPad iOS is 5.1.1.

Make sure you have things backed up, such as documents and photos etc. You may want to email them to yourself just in case.

This is a large update, so be very patient.
