...how to update my iPad 2 from 4.3.3 to 5.0 or 5.0.1. Seems more difficult than I am willing to pursue. I may seek out someone locally to help with this, but not even sure it can be done. I am relatively happy as is, but I am not able to download some updates to current apps. I am an avid knitter and afraid that I might lose information that is already on my iPad. Everything has been gathered with care and I don't want to risk losing any of it.

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

Yes it will be fine to update your iPad and as long as you back everything up first you shouldn't lose anything. Although you will go straight to OS 6.1.3 right now if you do update.......if you are worried about losing any info, just send yourself some emails of this info. There are loads more features available with the updates also.

You will need to have the latest iTunes on your PC/mac, disabling virus protection/firewall for the duration of the update is also a good idea. This will take quite a long time to complete as you will be jumping across many updates and is dependent on what you already do have on your iPad. But I will attach a couple of links to help you on the way, one of which is a video, always love those myself.
