Hi guys.. long story short i got an ipad 2 for Xmas.. (personally i hate apple and i`m android all the way)
and i know ABSOLUTELY nothing about apple products.

I want to jailbreak... (''Yes, so read through the stickies'') but before i do, is there something i should DEFINITELY not do.. like update my ios or something....

And if you want to give me some advice on where to start it would also be good

Kind Regards and Merry xmas to you and your families!

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

If your iPad 2 is new it most likely is already on IOS6 and there is no jailbreak available as yet for this. Have a look in Settings - General - About and look for Version. If it is on IOS6 stay tuned to this thread, the lead post will be updated as new info comes to hand. If not let us know what version you are on.

Yes that is IOS5 but I'm afraid you have missed out on jail breaking on this version. I'm fairly certain 5.0.1 was the version required to be able to jailbreak.

Hopefully, someone will confirm this,

That's the version that's currently jail breakable - so you are in luck.

As its brand new, without much "stuff" on it, to jail break it, may I suggest you follow the steps as outlined in this tutorial: http://www.ipadforums.net/showthread.php?t=77390

One word of caution, however. You will not have any way of "fixing" the jail break if you load a jail break tweak on it that is not intended for it. Or, if you accidentally delete files while accessing the file system. So, just be careful what you do with the jail break. If you end up having to restore, you will be restoring to the latest iOS, which is iOS 6.0.1 (and is unjail-breakable at this time).

That "warning" out of the way - enjoy your iPad (and the jail break). Have fun. Oh, and for some good ideas on what tweaks to put on it, see this thread here: http://www.ipadforums.net/showthread.php?t=25824

Yes that is exactly it, but if you restore, due to apple not signing 5.1.1 then you will restore to an iOS6 update, but no harm will come to your iPad, come back here for more help whenever you need it, and let's hope we can get you away from being an Apple Hater ;-)

actually I've often seen iPads sold "with jailbreak service" at a higher price than regular one... I would definitely wait before upgrading to OS6, some buyers might prefer your version after all...
