Java and the I-pad

    Does my I-pad 1 (OS 5.1.1) use Java, and can it be infected by Java malware from the web?

    No, it uses JavaScript, which is different from the Java program that is having all the security issues. So, your iPad is fine (and safe).

    Also, the iOS bug, which could lead to Javascript being turned back on after being turned off by the user, has been plugged with the introduction of ios 6.1

    I read today Apple blocked most Macs from using any Java.

    That's right. If you want it you have to download it direct. Apple are having nothing further to do with it.
