As a new user of my IPad, I would like to find a app that will power off when not in use. Dead battery is very frustrating, as well as getting to find out how to use my pad.
Thanks for the help.

I think holding the power button down and swiping the red off button is just as easy as an app, IMHO. An iPad with the screen off should not drain much from the battery unless you have something open in the background to drain it quicker. I had my iPad siting unused most of yesterday and when I went to use it, it was still on 100%

Hi Donna and welcome to the Forum!

Some apps will connect to the Internet even when the iPad is not being used and this can use battery life. The mail app is like this. I have mine set to Manual, so it's only when I open the mail app that it will connect. Another big drain of your battery is Brightness of the screen. I have mine set to under half with Auto on - Settings - Brightness & Wallpaper.
You will find many tips on the iPad below which will have you well on your way.

Let your iPad do the job for you
Go to Settings>General>Auto-Lock and choose the time you want your iPad to turn off automatically. I use 10 minutes to save the battery life if I can tear myself away from it for a while.
Regards, Andrew

That is a great suggestion! I checked my iPad last night because the battery was completely dead in the morning and I had previously set everything I could think of to get the battery to last as long as possible. I usually just shut the cover (it's supposed to turn the iPad off) and forget it until I want to use it again.

Anyway I checked Settings/General/Auto-Lock and it was set to NEVER. I also had updated the IOS to 6.1.3 but don't know if the update made the change or it has been like that right along. I've done a bit of searching for Battery Maintenance and Dead Battery and only found one item mentioning the Auto-Lock as being a potential problem area. I now thing it is very important to check where it is set at.
