One question in regards to the above statement, after setting up the new AppleID, was the credentials given back to the company, or are they only in your possession?

The reason I ask, I'm trying to figure out how they can gain access to Find My IPad without them.

I was not required to share my Apple ID info with my company. Regarding the "find my iPad" setting, after shutting down & restarting the device, I now have the ability to disable this, but have chosen not to, since I'm not concerned about them knowing my whereabouts, plus would be concerned about this action looking suspicious. I still cannot disable the requirement for a passcode, but this is not a major concern for me. My main issue has always been with my company's ability to access the data in my apps, but I have since decided to use the apps with discretion & mostly for business. Many thanks to all of you who have offered your insights, opinions and advice. I truly appreciate it.

I'm curious again. So when you go into Settings | General | Passcode, you simply cannot turn Passcode off?

Well I cannot see how they can do anything, including tracking your iPad. In terms of seeing data or usage, there is no way. In terms of tracking, without the AppleID. Info, they cannot use iCloud.com to track it.

Hey, come back to reality folks. Who, especially in these tough economic times, has the money to track you? The cost of tracking someone is prohibitive, even if they wanted to. And you'd first have to be suspected of doing something horrendous before they start tracking you, so ask yourself if you're really that important to the organisation... Just keep on using your company iPad responsible and sleep easy.

GPS and now Telematics are in use in many company vehicles (both liveried and plain paint). Tracking and monitoring in the name of productivity and efficiency can and does happen. I also know my employer records usage of their IT equipment.

Of course, YMMV.

Your version of reality probably doesn't match actual reality.

It doesn't cost much to track employeees, and employers do it because it pays off in productivity and in nipping other problems in the bud.

From 2007:

A 2007 survey by the American Management Association and the ePolicy Institute found that two-thirds of employers monitor their employees' web site visits in order to prevent inappropriate surfing. And 65% use software to block connections to web sites deemed off limits for employees. This is a 27% increase since 2001 when the survey was first conducted. Employers are concerned about employees visiting adult sites with sexual content, as well as games, social networking, entertainment, shopping and auctions, sports, and external blogs. Of the 43% of companies that monitor e-mail, nearly three-fourths use technology to automatically monitor e-mail. And 28% of employers have fired workers for e-mail misuse.

Close to half of employers track content, keystrokes, and time spent at the keyboard. And 12% monitor blogs to see what is being written about the company. Another 10% monitor social networking sites.

Almost half of the companies use video monitoring to counter theft, violence and sabotage. Of those, only 7% state they use video surveillance to track employees’ on-the-job performance. Most employers notify employees of anti-theft video surveillance (78%) and performance-related video monitoring (89%).

https://www.privacyrights.org/fs/fs7-work.htm/

I'd bet monitoring has only increased since then.

Personally, I'm not stupid enough to do anything questionable on work equipment, but I still value my privacy.

Gosh, I don't even do most of this stuff at home, let alone work.

As a retired IT tech, we would conduct periodic unannounced sweeps of every dept checking all company issued electronics. Any inappropriate software as defined by our acceptable use policy would be removed. If someone thinks this doesn't happen as a normal course of business then you might want to take another look. Companies can and will protect their assets by whatever means they deem necessary.

We did monitor web histories, and I personally knew one person to be terminated for porn found on his company issued laptop. Like I said earlier, best practice is keep personal things on personal machines, and only company stuff on company equipment to be safe.

Wow, thanks RW 212. I'm in Europe and it's a different ball game. I withdraw my comment about reality - there is obviously more than one reality! Thanks for the education.

Anyone stupid enough to surf porn at work deserves to lose a job. I don't think the op is worried about porn issues.

If iCloud is setup they can track you. All you have to do is turn off Location Services in Setting but if the iPad is stolen you won't be able to track it.

Google it. I'm NOT going to do research for you. Odds are your company maybe tracking you with iCloud and locked you out via the Restrictions on the iPad which means you can't turn it off. Why are you so worried? Why I asked, my older brother was caught via icloud fishing when he was supposed to be working. He has an iPhone.
