2016 is already looking like an epic year if you’re an Iron Maiden fan, with the band back on the road again worldwide in support of last year’s The Book of Souls album, and now today’s announcement from Roadhouse Interactive (of Warhammer 40,000: Carnage fame), 50cc Games and Iron Maiden that a free-to-play Iron Maiden RPG game for iOS iw to launch worldwide this summer.

Called Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast, the game will be steeped in Iron Maiden mythology, thanks to the unparalleled access to the band’s vaults that has been granted by their management team.

In the game, players get to take on the role of Iron Maiden’s iconic mascot, Eddie (pictured in all his glory at the game's launch yesterday), in his many forms, all of which have unique abilities. Travel through time and explore new worlds as you battle a whole host of characters drawn from Maiden’s back catalogue and art.

And as you might expect, music plays a very big part in the game, with the soundtrack featuring songs spanning the band’s entire career, including previously unheard live tracks that have been adapted for the game by engineer Tony Newton under the watchful eye of Iron Maiden bassist and founding member Steve Harris.

"We always thought Maiden's music and imagery with Eddie could be perfect for gaming and it's something we have been looking at doing again since Ed Hunter in 1999. Now in 2016 it can all be done on a smartphone which makes it even more accessible for all our fans and also all the gamers out there," commented Harris.
