I have seen this with almost all ipads (1&2) that i have encountered that they are not as loud and bassy on HEADPHONES as iphone and ipod..dont know why Apple used a weaker amp in it...i use my fiio e5 amp with my ipad 2 which gives it lots of bass and loudness! :)

Not really, but then my iPhone is the main music provider anyway!

I know what you are saying, maybe I didn't make myself clear enough, my iPhone is louder than the iPod touch but the iPad 1 I have seems to have a deeper tone but I still think there is no difference between iPhone and iPad for me. Except the difference in size makes it naturally sound different. I don't have iPad 2 so can't make comparisons with that.

'Settings', 'iPod', 'EQ' ->'On' and select what equalisation strategy you want. Maybe you have this set so that the bass is not boosted?
