Hi everyone,

I since a week the proud owner of a 64gb wifi+3g ipad :)
(sorry, i just had to say this lol)

After some searches here (about converting files and dvd's) I
downloaded "Handbrake" on my (Windows 7, 32bit) laptop

The question I have is:

When I open "Handbrake" I see a lot of settings and options.
What are the best settings to convert movie videos's for the Ipad.

Also I was wondering what you approx file size is for one DVD.
Of course this changes when you use different settings (quality wishes)
but, if we all provide a indication we could get a nice average.

I hope you all can help me out with the settings so I can place some
movies on my Ipad :D

kind regards,

Faisj

I use the universal setting and it looks very good. It also lets me watch it on my touch by using this setting too. I'm hoping handbrake creates an ipad setting soon. File size depends on the movie but avatar was over 2 GB if I remember correctly.

Transformers:The Movie
Settings used: iPod/iTouch
Size: a little over 1GB

Transformers 2:Revenge of the Fallen
Settings used: Apple TV
Size: a little over 2GB

Mr & Mrs Smith
Settings used: iPod/iTouch
Size: 650MB

All are mp4 files. The Apple TV setting is better but that doesn't mean the iTouch version is bad. The iTouch settings are still very good and clear.

Thx.

I then place that file in a folder so iTunes can see it for the sync.
But, if I delete it from my pc.. will it also be deleted on the iPad?

I use a 120GB (ssd) HD in my laptop and i have 20GB left.
So, I just want to store the converted files on the iPad.

Is that possible?

Is there a setting for Apple TV? I have a Mac and that's the one I use.

Average movie seems to be about 1.4gb

If iTunes only syncs then I would need a lot of extra space on my laptop!
Or can you like just place the movie on the iPad?

Do you Handbreak users have problems with copy protected DVDs? I struggled with this today using my old standby: FormatFactory.

You have to rip the DVD before you can have handbrake convert it. I use dvddecrypter along with dvd43. Once it's ripped to a TS file then handbrake can convert it.

Thank you for the link.

After reading this I still want to confirm the following:

"Any song, movie, etc.. that is on my iPad has to be also in my Laptop
due to the fact that iTunes syncs all the data between the devices"

correct?

Syncing goes both ways. If you don't have it on your laptop, iTunes will ask you if you want it to go to your laptop. The same goes for apps that you bought/got directly from your iPad.
