Ipad accessories I am using.....maybe!

So I just won a 500gb portable hard drive at the bingo at work(on an oil rig - I kid you not!!) and I also have a camera conversion kit to hook it up to the ipad. Is that all I need to make the drive work? I'm gonna buy cinexplayer as well so I can watch movies and hopefully photos will be easy to move around as well.
Does this sound like the right way to go about this?

Hmmm just plugged all this in with not much luck. Just nothing happening. Device unsupported.

The Camera Conversion Kit will at least support a SD card.
Other stuff is just pot luck.

Also, if you have the USB cable to your camera you can connect it directly to your iPad and upload pics that way too!

Yes, as you have now found out the iPad does not provide sufficient power to power an external portable drive.
