Yes, it has wifi built in, but you need to be in range of a wifi network to be able to use it.

You need to log into the network in the Settings App, touch the wifi tab in the left hand pane.

So you are staying at a hotel, which other wifi network are you expecting to see, do you have a mobile hotspot?

Ok, when you say your network, where is your network coming from......a mobile phone, a mifi, a laptop?

    Ok, you have lost me.....

You said that the hotel has a network, which your iPad can see.

You also said you have a network, which your iPad can't see. I think you may be confused here, I get the feeling that you don't have anything with you that can generate a wifi network. If this is the case then the only network that you will see will be the hotels network.

It does have wifi but it needs a network to connect to so that it can use it.

No problem, we've all had to learn how these things work. I got myself a mifi for when I'm away from home as it generates a wifi hotspot for up to 5 devices from a 3G signal.
