Forget all those recent sightings of iPad 2 cases (pictured) and mock-ups, it would appear that a prototype of the actual real thing, not just a mock-up, was spotted at The Daily launch in New York this Wednesday. According to an eyewitness from Reuters, a working iPad 2 with a front-facing camera at the top of the front screen was seen at the press conference. A source also confirmed to Reuters that they could indeed believe their eyes, and what they had spotted was indeed the real thing. The source said that the final version could have different features to the one that was seen, so that means it's still a fairly long way off release. Unsurprisingly, both News Corp. who were holding the press conference, and Apple, made no comment when asked about the iPad 2’s appearance.

It all seems a bit mysterious really, makes you wonder if it was someone from Apple who took the iPad 2 to the press conference, but why would they do so when they knew it would be full of journalists, many of who would know exactly what it was. Was it a mistake, or a deliberate outing for the prototype? Enquiring minds want to know!

Assuming it's not a fake! Even so, I doubt the home button is going anywhere.
