ipad 2 has lost its volume

nope still no joy but what ive done is to keep pluging and unpluging the charge cable then it starts to work for anbout 2 secounds then of could it be the charge socket at fault

That's why I suggested cleaning the dock connector.

yea it works thank you for your surport i sprayed electric contact cleaner in to the plug and kept pluging and unpluging it a few times and hey presto thank you

It sound like the small switch which is an integral part of the jack socket and opens when the jack plug is inserted is failing to connect. This is a common problem with devices that use jack connectors and is usually easily fixed by improving the leaf spring tension with a little cautious bending. The biggest problem is getting at it.
