Is your Wi-Fi working? Try to access a random website using a browser.

If this works, try to open your Gmail account in Safari or another browser. If that's not possible, some of the Gmail servers might be down, and that's why you can't see your emails.

WI-FI works great ! I cannot get to email... I cannot delete the mail ICON either. I have deleted all my email accounts and after I reset or reboot...the mail ICON is there, after I hit the Mail ICON, it takes me to the GMAIL template... it is frozen.... I then add GMAIL AGAIN, no luck.... POP and IMAP settings are correct....

The Mail app is a built in app that came with your iPad. It can't be deleted.

Try force closing the app:
Double tap the Home button to show the multitask bar. Slide the picture above the Mail app icon towards the top of the screen. This is one of the troubleshooting fixes that help with misbehaving apps. Hopefully it will help with yours as well.

HALLO !
Thank you for you suggestions.. J.A.
I wish it was that easy to fix. I tried it and nothing seems to work to get rid of the GMAIL template when I hit the mail ICON. It always comes up....
I do not want to RESET to DEFAULT SETTINGS if I do not have to. I know that ITUNES can put me back together.... When I it the mail ICON, GMAIL comes up, but it is empty, not populated. Very strange indeed.

It's the only option left that could help.

Make sure your iPad is backed up, before you erase everything.

If you have a computer with the latest version of iTunes, backing up and restoring through iTunes is quite a bit faster than restoring from an iCloud backup.

Excellent points........I am backed up with the latest ITunes...
I have never done a restore, but.....I will find out....
Too back , no other way to get rid of that Gmail template.....it's funny that when an email comes in, new message, I hear the sound, but of course all I see is the blank GMAIL template that is frozen.... How did that happen? Too many emails in storage???? Cannot be that...
Thank you for the tips so far.....

Nothing worked..to fix it......
So I went to ITunes, backed up my IPAD and did a restore to default settings, then
restore my IPAD to what it was..that I backed up on ITUNEs..
Good as new now. ! Whew! This process only took about 45 minutes.... and was straight forward..
Thanks all....
Buzzy
