Hi first post,

Tried to download IOS5, run for over an hour then failed at backup phase. Message shown indicated that if I continued could lose all data on my IPad so cancelled as instructed. If I start again and this message reappears can I continue and restore from the sync and backup before starting the process or am I in big trouble.

I am on original IPad

First, welcome to the forum! Good to "see" you and hope you enjoy your visit(s).

Try doing another backup before attempting the download/restore process again.

With your iPad hooked to iTunes, right click on the iPad line and select "Back Up." If it completes okay, then try the upgrade process again. The key here is to have a good backup - else you could very well lose some, if not all of your data in the restore process. No good backup equals bad "restore from backup"...

With a good backup, go ahead and start over again - and you can accept to lose all info, cause you've got a backup.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

First of all it is best if you start a new thread with your problem rather than hijack another thread, it can become very confusing when trying to follow conversations and is against Forum Rules, but you are new and probably didn't know. With regards to your question if you turn on Photo Stream on your iPad and iPhone anything captured on either device will automatically stream to the other. Settings - ICloud - Photo Stream. Of course I'm assuming that both devices are on IOS5. Hope this helps you.

Hi thanks for your help, have now downloaded IOS5 successfully and managed not to lose any data, but had to re sync to ensure everything was there after backup restore. Successful, but not an easy process, hope Apple make it easier for the next big upgrade.

Glad you were successful with the upgrade, this was a particularly large upgrade as it was a totally new system. Future ones should be much simpler and now will be done over the air with wifi. You're going to love the upgrade, so many new features!
