    I am getting this message when I go into mail and cannot receive or send emails on my ipad but not a problem on my MacBook so it's not the account. Tried turning off mail and the ipad but has not fixed the problem. Do not want to delete the account as am unsure if it just deletes from the ipad or wipes my whole gmail account. Any help appreciated.

    Delete and re-add the Gmail account on the iPad. It will have no affect on your actual Google email account. All mail and other information is stored on Google's servers. It will sync back to the iPad when the account is re-added.

    This is the nature, and beauty, of an IMAP account.
