I've been sketching most days, but had not produced anything I liked enough to share. However, I am pleased with my Wally sketch for some odd reason, and I've thrown in The Baron because I'm not unpleased with it.

The Baron

Done in Sketch Club for the "Draw your favorite Studio Ghibli character." I do like The Baron from "The Cat Returns", but really he was picked to match my lack of skills. I took some major liberties with his attire. That or I accidentally drew one of his more flamboyant relatives.

For the "Humanize a non-human Disney/Pixar character" challenge in Sketch Club. If you don't know who this guy is supposed to be I either failed utterly (both at the drawing and the rather unsubtle hints), or you've never seen the movie. :D

Hey Mike, you are getting really good at this and not lacking in skills at all! Great sketching there, and I like your sense of colour (or as they say in your neck of the woods, color;))

Great photo AQ_OC.

Gosh they are such ugly birds........I think I'd lose my brekki if I came across them having theirs! ;)

Honestly, that bird is so ugly I'm thinking about taking it down! I like the education value of such an image, but looking at it for long starts to turn my stomach (I had it has my home screen on my iPad, but that got old quick!).

This makes me wonder: What is the ugliest bird?

Wonderful sketches TP......and yes you have done justice to Wall-E....great portrayal really!

And now I wouldn't mind watching Spirited Away again.....it's been on my mind lately after seeing a certain competition we are running right now and then your Ghibli sketch! ;)

It would have to be a vulture, wouldn't it? Especially that one with the longer neck and red face! (Don't know my vultures, we don't have them here)

That one is truly hideous!

Aw, we all know the perfectly sensible reason why most vultures lack feathers on their heads. It's not their fault it makes them ugly.

I got kicked out of the St. Louis Zoo once. There's a big outdoor flight cage left over from the 1904 World's Fair, with an elevated catwalk down the middle. A very large African vulture was perched, dozing, on the railing. There was no one else in the cage but me. I walked slowly up to the bird. By the time a keeper spotted me and made me leave, the vulture was sitting on my forearm, eyes rolled back in bliss, turning its head to where it wanted to be scratched next. We were friends! Oh well, the bird was pretty heavy, and my arm was starting to ache anyway.

A sinkhole opened in Ottawa, Ontario Canada this morning.

image-4203387339.jpg

The road surface collapsed mere hours before the beginning of rush hour traffic, creating gridlock and disrupting public transit city-wide.

Top to bottom, the hole is the approximate dimensions of a shipping container.
It's location is adjacent to a tunnelling project where large excavators and bore machines are digging vertically and horizontally, to lay the infrastructure for the below surface leg of a new rapid transit electric train system.

Workers were in the train tunnel when the collapse occurred. No one was hurt but it's unclear whether the collapse infiltrated the tunnel or compromised the work area in some other way. The investigation of the collapse could delay construction for weeks, possibly months.

The attached images were taken by Carleton University Journalism School student Sarah Spitz.
Ms. Spitz is presently attached to my radio / TV station in Ottawa, where she is completing an internship.
This assignment was particularity difficult for a novice and would have been challenging for an experienced reporter too.
A heavy rainfall was underway and the location was difficult and dangerous to navigate on foot. Ms. Spitz was also tasked with covering the scene of a fatal hit n' run accident that occurred around the same time, minutes away from the sinkhole location.

Both assignments were completed professionally.

As I was reading your post, I thought you were going to say - I walked slowly up to the bird and in a loud voice said BOO! :D

But my, what an experience for you, to have a creature like that on your arm and petting it!! That's an amazing memory to have!!

That's quite a hole Admiral and so so lucky it happened when it did even though it's going to be a headache to fix!

Well done to that student to get in and get the job done! A hit 'n' run can't have been a nice experience for one so young! Never nice at all!!

AA--That is terrible. I am having a hard time along with many other Michigan drivers trying to navigate through our road systems lately. The potholes have been the worst ever. So many cars have lost tires and rims from all this. Detroit has also had 2 sinkholes as well. Thankfully, I do not have to drive there regularly for work.
