Reboot ipad by holding the home & power key @ same time until you see silver apple logo.

That will probably work although that's resetting the iPad which is probably not necessary. Simply restarting the iPad, holding down the power switch by itself until the red slider appears, turning it off by sliding the switch and then holding down the power switch until the Apple logo appears should do it.

Resetting the iPad should be reserved for a non-responsive unit as it addresses other activity.
