It could be 2 things :something is playing, or orientation lock.

Location
Outside my iPad, or was it inside?
I am certain that Tim had already posted a screenshot with a hint to read the iPad user guide in a similar topic, but I can't seem to find it right now.

Anyway, the icon next to the battery can indicate one of the following:

-Screen-orientation lock turned on
-Play (an app is playing music)
-Bluetooth is turned on
-Location (an app is using GPS to find your current location

It was Bluetooth! Tim is quite correct....I should have checked the Ipad User Guide!

Thank you! Saw, intermittently, a little arrow pointing at about 2 o'clock to the left of the battery percentage. Wondered what it was. Searched all over, until the trusty iPad forum told me. Yes!!! Was using a radar weather map at the time. So it was showing location activity. Thanks again. Stuff like that can cause wonderment over exertion.
