My iPad was stolen last week, and I don't know if It has iCloud on it. Is it possible to use my Apple ID to remotely install iCloud? And maybe put Find My iPad on it? I don't expect to ever see it again but decided it's worth asking. Can't afford to replace it. (I basically used it for reading, a few games, and some Internet use. Would the iPad 1 work for me?) thanks!

Hi Heathersmom - I'm afraid that you need to have 'Find My iPad' turned 'ON' in Settings -> iCloud; then by signing into iCloud on the web (usually using your Apple ID, unless setup w/ a different sign-up), a selection will be given to find your iDevice - just gave my iPad 2 a try - a map 'pops up' which showed the exact location of my iPad in my home town and also allowed me to send a ring (other choices include 'Erase' the device). Not sure what other options you may have if this option was not activated on your iPad, but hopefully others will 'chime in' w/ advice. :)

Oh,oh. i thought that this Find my iPad would work if I had access to a computer and iTunes. I don't have an iCloud account and was trying to avoid getting one. Am I correct in reading that iCloud is only way to do a search for a stolen ipad?

I do have the find my ipad turned on.

Well, you're right about needing a computer; so since you have the iPad search option activated, just go to the iCloud website using a browser - assume you have an Apple ID & password - types those in and likely iCloud will let your into the site & you can then ring your iPad, like I did in my post above.

If you cannot get into the iCloud site, then setup an account - you can use it for nothing more than 'finding your iPad' - I do not have any other features activated, i.e. it is your choice as to how you want to use iCloud. Good luck - Dave :)

I'm going to activate iCloud, if only for the searching for a lost or stolen iPad. Thanks.

The news recently reported a teen who tracked her ipad down using this feature. Crazy not to use it.
