This is kind of a strange question. Steve Jobs named most of the products with minuscule I followed by capital letters, eg iPhone, iPad, iTunes. But he was not the first to do it. Writer Richard Brautigan, in his short story "In Watermelon Sugar," he writes of a place called "iDEATH." Is there any connection (Perhaps Steve Jobs was a reader) or is it purely coincidental?

The original i was for the iMac. It was supposed to mean that unlike other computers of the time the iMac was designed to easily connect to the internet. It was a marketing thing. Since then it's evolved to mean more (so I've heard); but mostly it's just become so imbedded Apple's branding that if it were not there, and there was no Mac in the name either, people probably wouldn't believe it was an Apple product.

I've read in a article somewhere that apparently the i in Apple products is suppose to represent words such as: innovation, ideas, intelligence, information, etc. Correct me if I'm wrong.
