I Pad won't shut off

Help Please! When I try to shut off my IPad, It tries to shut down, but is now in limbo with that little circle in the middle of the screen going round and round, for 8 hours now. What can I do?

Try pressing the Home and Power buttons at the same time, and hold them until it reboots. You won't lose any data.
