So, my workplace issued me an iPad and I would like to have the ability to connect it to 4G. How do I do this? Do I need to take it to my cell provider, or can I just set it up from my iPad?

You need a Micro- or Nano-SIM card, depending on your iPad. You'll get it from your provider, so it's better to take it there to make sure you have the right SIM card.

It's not possible to enable 3G or 4G on an iPad with Wi-Fi only. If you find the SIM card tray here:

then it's an iPad with Wi-Fi + Cellular.
