I have a new ipad retina display. I Love it!! I am a homebuilder and residential property owner/manager. I plan to use the ipad for many work related applications. But it sure would be nice if i could print directly to a portable printer like the HP 470 , or others printers while on the jobsites. Printing at home or at the office on wi fi is nice and I plan to do that but can anyone tell me how I may print away from the wi fi network? It would make life so easy and no I would rather not want to carry a larger laptop around too. Can anyone help? Thanks and I am glad to be here!!

Hi Jamiev, and welcome to iPF.

HP's eprint may be useful to you. It enables you to email a document directly to your printer. My HP 3050a has the facility, although I actually bought it because its one of the cheapest AirPrint solutions I've found. $80 for the printer, and $20 each for cartridges.

Thanks Kevin. Is that printer portable ? Does it have a battery? I could plug into one of those car plug inverters . I just need text docs. So a basic printer is fine I really appreciate your advice

It doesn't have a battery, but should work OK with an inverter. I would think you'll need some sort of mobile router, but I'm not really up on this stuff. The term "mi-fi" springs to mind here. You need something that will give your printer an IP address so your iPad can find it.
