I know these two don't play well with each other, but is there any way to sync as much of my Google account (I have a Verizon Droid) to my iPad?

I use google with my iPad and iPhone without any issues so far.

Creating a Gmail account on the iPad does not give an option to sync contacts, but you can create an Exchange account in mail settings and choose to sync your contacts.

I have no issues at all.

If it asks for a server name, use m.google.com. Username is your full email address.
