Game Center?

I have a couple of questions about Game Center.

1. Do I need the Game Center app in order to play the games that have a Game Center icon next to them? Or is it only if I want to play them online?

2. I searched the app store for the Game Center app and I couldn't find it. How do I get it?

the game center comes on the ipad2 about the middle of the screen

i get lot of games from the app store too and i don't play online due to a slower hook-up for the net, plus i'm way old. nova2 is way cool, and i'm stuck trying to finish the bridge in splinter cell. post again when yer pad shows. you gonna luv it....
