Thanks for the tip!! I use all Gigabyte boards. Updated to the latest bios (only do this if you know what you are doing) Downloaded and installed on-off charge from Gigabyte http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/microsite/185/on-off-charge.htm Works perfect. iPad is charging via USB while I am using it!!
It works It works on my acer computer at lest the Ipad says it is charging ' Thanks for the link. You have my vote for post of the year.
It still charges slowly, but surprisingly it actually works on my PC laptop . I'm wondering if there are any side effects though....PC did seem to start up slower.
I installed it on my newer HP. Didnt prompt for MB type.Worked on my ipad for about 5 secs when I got a blue(memory dump)screen. Happened with every reboot until uninstalled. I'll go with the trickle.
Most computers do charge ipad, albeit slowly, when the screen is off but I wonder how faster it charges.
My unofficial tests: Wall Charger: 1% per minute Updated USB: 1% every 5 minutes Old USB speed: 1% every 15 minutes
AFAIK, this AI Charger program sits in the tray awaiting the connection of any apple device. When you plug one in, it will send 1.2 amps through that USB port instead of the standard 500mA, thus allowing your iPad to be charged I don't know about the long term affects of delivering this much power through a USB port though..
I was also wondering about the long term effects of sending more power through the USB ports on some lower end motherboards not designed for such power requirements, and also if extra heat will be produced
